ABOUT
I paint the moments we want to keep.
I’m Mariella Roovers, a Dutch artist based in Germany.
My work is inspired by people, the sea and the moments that stay with us – a familiar face, a memory, the feeling of standing by the water.
Through watercolour and carefully selected materials, I create original artworks that capture more than what we see.
They preserve a feeling.
From a moment to something lasting.

,,She kept sending updates on the creative process and asked us for honest feedback……”
For the birth of our child, we wanted something truly special and asked Mariella to create an artistic birth announcement—and we still can't quite believe how beautiful the final result turned out!
After an initial consultation where we shared our wishes, she regularly sent updates on the creative process and asked for our honest feedback. She implemented every change we requested and explained the reasoning behind the arrangement of the elements. We are incredibly grateful for this beautiful work, which so powerfully captures our great happiness—something that wouldn't have been possible without Mariella.

,,…all the visitors mention the picture to me””
What I particularly like about Mariella’s work is her ability to capture the atmosphere of the moment. She works with great attention to detail and a wonderful sense of color harmony. I am also impressed by how well her art resonates with my family and circle of friends; everyone who sees the painting immediately comments on it and breaks into a smile. Our painting radiates a sense of joy—exactly what we wanted.Rezension von K. Fischer, Bentheim
"It reminds me of so many beautiful moments from the past and also urges me to cherish the moments unfolding now—to be fully present in them, even if only as a companion in the background. It shows me the importance of enjoying every moment with my children, for eventually, the roles of 'strength and weakness' will be reversed."
To begin with, I am neither an art lover nor an art connoisseur. Instead, I decide quite pragmatically: I either like something or I don’t.
When I first saw the picture "Stärke begleitet" (Strength Accompanies), it immediately captivated me. I am fascinated by the contrast between the large, strong—at times wild—bear in the background and the young, innocent girl in the foreground. The girl is exploring the world, her gaze fixed on the path ahead. The combination of a sweet little dress—which, to me, symbolizes the purity and innocence of childhood—and heavy boots—representing growth and the journey one must take (a journey that can be arduous and sometimes requires getting one’s boots dirty)—creates a fantastic contrast in itself. Everyone must forge their own path and find their place in life—even an innocent child.
An inner truth, an outer truth, and a moral truth.
The image "Strength Accompanies" reminds me of my own daughters—girls I strive to accompany well, whom I have the privilege of watching grow up, and whom I try to support and catch whenever necessary. That is an external truth the image conveys to me.
It also represents growth. The girl—pure, honest, and innocent—evolves along her path, perhaps discovering and solidifying within herself other traits akin to those of a bear. It is almost as if the girl and the bear were one, practically a single person—facets of a single character. An inner truth, a synthesis of the two individual natures, so to speak.
But the image speaks of much more. For true strength never exploits weakness—or what is perceived as weakness. To me, that is the very definition of strength. True strength knows its own power yet never uses it against the weak. It remains in the background, propping up those who need help. It is present without always being visible. This is a moral truth that the image "Strength Accompanies" perfectly embodies for me—and ultimately, it becomes the central message.
I have this picture hanging in my dining room at home, so I can catch a glimpse of it whenever we sit down at the table as a family. It reminds me of so many beautiful moments from the past and urges me to cherish the moments unfolding now—to be fully present in them, even if only as a companion in the background. It encourages me to savor every moment with my children, for eventually, the roles of "strength" and "weakness" will reverse. Then, my daughters will be the strong bear in the background, while I, like a small, frail boy, walk the final stretch of my own journey. Such is the evolution—the path of life!
